FAQs

  • I'm new to Pole, where do I start?

Welcome to your new home away from home.

Start with the Intro Series, which consists of three different classes: A, B, and C. Each covers a different set of movements. Start with Intro A and then take each class as many times as you’d like. Once you’re comfortable and feeling good, you’re ready for other classes at the studio. Read about class formats here.

  • What should I bring?

We provide yoga mats. Just bring a water bottle. Optional: knee pads, grip-aid, and heels. Grip-aid is liquid chalk that prevents slipping on the pole.

Our Studio Shop carries Envriogrip (sustainably made grip-aid in biodegradable packaging), as well as water bottles with a built-in phone stand, knee pads, apparel, and heels.

Pro tip: Store your big a$$ heels at the studio for $5/month (free for members!)

  • What should I know about the studio?

The studio is kept clean for your comfort and is an outdoor shoe-free space.

We provide cubbies in each studio for your belongings. Goodside is not responsible for lost items.

There are no showers, but we keep classes comfortably cool to prevent sweat and slipping on the pole.

The studio is cashless. We accept credit cards and ApplePay / Google Wallet.

  • What should I wear?

Layer up. Wear layers for the warm-up, and you can lose them when you want more skin contact. We have two dressing rooms, but wearing your base-layers under your clothes saves time so that you can head right to the studio.

For base-layers: tank tops, sports bra, shorts, swim bikinis, bodysuits, it’s all good.

For top-layers: shirts, pants, socks, anything comfortable.

Do not put lotion or potions on your skin. It will be much harder to dance if you have any lotion on. And remember to REMOVE ALL JEWELRY (earrings are fine).

  • When should I arrive?

Classes start on. the. dot. Arrive at least 10 minutes before class starts so that you can check-in and make your way to your pole. If you are not checked in at the class start time, your spot may be given to someone on the waitlist.

For safety, late entry is not permitted.

If it is your first time at Goodside, arrive 15 minutes early for your orientation tour - this is mandatory and will let you know where to find what you need!

  • Who can pole?

All are welcome. We are an inclusive studio for dancers of all gender identities, sexual orientations, races, backgrounds, and body forms. We do not tolerate harassment and hate in any form and Goodside is a safe-space for empowerment and support.

  • Can I take videos during class?

Video is a great way to document moves you’ve learned and celebrate your pole journey.

During class, phones remain OFF so you can be present and focus on moving and the material being taught.

Phones and video are permitted during the Freestyle portion of class. Feel free to post videos of yourself on social media (tag @goodside_studios!), but only include teachers or other dancers if they give their explicit consent.

  • I've taken pole before, which classes should I book?

If you’ve taken fewer than 5 pole classes before, head straight to Intro B and C so that your foundational movements are covered.

If you have taken more than 5 pole classes and are comfortable with these movements, feel free to take any all-levels class:

Pole Walk, Dip Turn, Body Wave, Pirouette, Back Hook Spin, Carousel Kick, Fan Kick, Fireman Spin, Pole Sit, Basic Climb, Forearm Climb, Chair Spin, Leg Wave, and Figure Four Layback.

  • I'm new to heels, how do I start?

The most common heels for pole are platform sandals (with straps), ankle boots, and tall boots.

Sandals are more flexible and versatile. Boots offer more ankle stability and protection for higher impact movements.

Pleasers USA makes the most popular pole heels and are known for being comfortable with a wide range of styles, which start at $50.

Our front desk staff is happy to assist with selecting shoes and ordering your Pleasers with our studio discount.

  • How does the waitlist work?

If you're next on a waitlist and a spot opens up, you will be automatically added to the class. Please keep an eye on your notifications. You will not be automatically added if it is within 2-hours of class; instead, we will contact you to see if you can make it to the studio for class.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel a reservation, remember to do so at least 12 hours before the start of class and your class credit will be returned to your account.

Late cancellations (within 12 hours of class) result in loss of the credit and will incur a $15 Late Fee.

Failing to cancel a class will result in loss of the credit and a $25 No-show Fee.

  • Is pole dancing the same as stripping?

Strippers and sex workers created pole dancing, and they are professional performers. At Goodside, you are not performing or required to remove clothes. Strippers and sex workers are warmly welcome and invited to Goodside’s studios and community.

More information in our studio values here.

  • Can I pole from home?

Yes! Home pole allow you to continue practicing the movements you learn in class. Similar to a tension-installed chin-up bar (but vertical), they are compact, easy to remove and store, and do not damage floors or ceilings. The poles we use in the studio are 45mm stainless steel Lupit poles. You can order home-poles from Lupit with 10% off using code GOODSIDE10.
